PlayStation has a new free download ready for the weekend, and the good news is you don’t need PS Plus to get it!

If you’re in the mood for some weekend gaming on your PS5, the good news is that Astro Bot players can enjoy a new free update.

It brings with it a new level, bot, and trophy to earn.

Astro Bot was one of the best games of last year, even winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

When Astro Bot launched last year, one of the biggest praises being sung was its dedication to celebrating not just PlayStation-owned characters, but those belonging to gaming as a whole.

Some of the cameos included Kiryu from Yakuza, Dante from Devil May Cry, and Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. That’s in addition to the massive number of characters included that belong to PlayStation’s massive catalogue.

In our own Astro Bot review, we called it “a monumental triumph” and a “a true elevation in every sense”. It’s one of the best games we can recommend to any PS5 owner.

Astro Bot’s latest update adds a new bot, Ezio from Assassin’s Creed 2, along with the new 'Armored Hardcore' level. It comes as part of the last content drop for the Vicious Void Galaxy free DLC.

In addition to the level and new bot, it also comes with a new trophy “Rolling Rescue”, which you can obtain by rescuing the Ezio bot.

Considering Assassin’s Creed Shadows is just around the corner, Ezio’s inclusion in Astro Bot should come as no surprise.

While he’s not expected to appear in Shadows (it takes place about a hundred years after Assassin’s Creed 2), he is one of the most iconic characters from the series.

As for what else is coming to Astro Bot, Team Asobi hasn’t announced any further content coming to the game. However, considering the game’s success and mass appeal, it’s probably a question of when rather than if.

The 'Armored Hardcore' level for Astro Bot is about 390MB in size, so you’ll have no problem downloading it and jumping on this weekend.
