Rumours surrounding the potential release of the PlayStation 6 have been front and center for the past year as fans are worried that it is just too soon to move on.
Later this year, the PlayStation 5 will be celebrating its five-year anniversary and although that is still a hefty chunk of time and technology is rapidly advancing in recent years, it is also worth considering the beginning of the PS5’s lifespan.
Released back in 2020, the PlayStation 5 became almost impossible to get your hands on thanks to scalpers, stock-shortages and a whole pandemic.
As a result, many users had to wait and so they feel as though they have hardly had any time to experience what the PlayStation 5 has to offer.

Not to mention the lack of exclusive game releases but that is a whole different story.
So it is easy to see why the mention of the PlayStation 6 arriving soon has users worried.
However, according to a recent report, we may all be able to breathe a sigh of relief as the PS6 will not be released until late fall/early winter of 2029.
This news comes courtesy of leaker Detective Seeds who took to Twitter to share the following:

"According to a Playstation engineer working on the hardware side of the house; the PS6 will be announced in 2028 and release late Fall/early Winter 2029.
"Dev kits are estimated to be distributed to developers around Spring 2026 at the same time PS5 Pro gets the upgrade to FSR4."
The FSR4 (AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution) will take over from the PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) and offer the PlayStation better upscaling.
However, this technology is not expected to arrive until 2026 and so this is just one of many reasons why the PlayStation 6 will not be launching any time soon.

According to PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny, "AMD is moving extremely quickly. What I'm trying to do is prepare for the next generation of consoles, so my time-frame is multi-year here."
As a result, he has revealed that the PS6 will not be around for a while longer.
So, you can all breathe a sigh of relief that you will not have to fork out for the PlayStation 6 any time soon and you can sit back and relax with your PS5 for many more years to come.
