The PlayStation 6 is Sony’s next console and while many would argue we don’t need it, too bad we’re getting it anyway.
Despite it being inevitable Sony has said very little about the system but has hinted at what kind of hardware we’ll find in its shell. A YouTube video by PlayStation talking about the future of hardware was released a few days ago, though weirdly there are more comments talking about Mark Cerny’s soothing voice than there are comments about future consoles…
What we do know about the PlayStation 6 is it’s going to cost us an arm and a leg, that’s just the way it is with new consoles nowadays.
However leaks suggest that while the new console will cost more than the PlayStation 5, its price might not be too far off the PlayStation 5 Pro. For reference a brand-new PlayStation 5 Pro in the UK would set you back just shy of £700.

The PlayStation 6 is rumoured to cost around £800 depending on whether you include a disc-drive or not, with the disc-drive being an optional add-on you can buy later if you initially buy the all-digital version.
Now that is expensive but if you’ve been hanging onto your PlayStation 5 and never upgraded to the Pro you at least know you’re getting a significant upgrade. If you did buy the PlayStation 5 Pro, that’s unfortunate.
Just be thankful you’re not an Xbox fan. Leaks for Microsoft’s next console suggest it’ll cost way more than PlayStation’s, and that’s without the promise of exclusive games to go with it.
According to leaks from channels like Moore’s Law Is Dead Xbox is targeting a 2027 launch year for its next console, which matches other leaks saying PlayStation is doing the same thing.

Given how Xbox has been managing things recently it seems like there’s already a clear winner when it comes to both consoles competing.
You never know though. As big and grand as these new consoles tend to be there’s no arguing that things are starting to get just a bit too expensive in terms of both hardware and software.
If the PlayStation 6 is priced above the PlayStation 5 Pro it’ll be interesting to see how many units are sold, even if it’s cheaper than many will have expected.
