PlayStation 5 users have called for a major change following a “disgusting” new trend on the PlayStation Store.
There are thousands of games available to buy on the PlayStation Store, and that can clog up people’s feeds when trying to find a new game to buy.
This can be funky particularly during sales periods, where popular AAA games and unique indie games can sometimes be mixed in with games that have been accused of being “shovelware” and “AI slop”.
As one user points out on a PlayStation Reddit post too, there appears to be an ever-increasing number of “slop” games appearing on the PlayStation Store in recent years.
“The amount of slop clogging the PSN new game list is disgusting,” they write.

“I know this is not a new topic but every time I want to browse the new game list (seeing if something came out that was not on my radar or if something I was interested has finally hit the store), 89% of all games listed are derivative, AI, copycat slop 'games' that most gamers don’t want/buy.”

"Slop Games" Have Become A Big Trend On Game Storefronts Lately
The user goes on to call this “pretty embarrassing” for Sony, which has a long history of quality control on the PlayStation service. They end the post by writing, “Does anyone actually buy these $20 games (miraculously that are always on sale for 85% off)?”
Indeed, just from browsing the PlayStation Store for a few minutes, I can see a few games that clearly have AI-generated thumbnails that don’t resemble the actual game screenshots at all.
Other users took to the comments to agree with the complaints, with one commenter writing, “I wish there was a button that does the opposite of the wishlist. The ‘Not interested’ button, so you don't have to see that garbage anymore.”
“No idea why nothing has been done about them, it makes the store look sh***y,” another user writes.
“You think that is bad should take a look at Steam,” another comment reads.
Games like this have always clogged up the various game storefronts since they were first around, but the problem seems to have gotten worse in recent years due to the prevalence of ChatGPT and other AI generation tools.
These tools essentially take the fun out of the creative process by doing it all for you, often producing rather iffy results.
The trend of using AI-generated assets has even hit AAA games recently, with titles like Battlefield and Call of Duty being accused of employing such tactics.
