PlayStation 5 Slim won't be 'slim' at all, still a chungus of a console, says insider

PlayStation 5 Slim won't be 'slim' at all, still a chungus of a console, says insider

Absolute unit.

The PS5 is an absolute beast of a console, both in terms of its power and stature. I’ll never forget the moment when I first unboxed mine, and was hit with the sudden realisation that I had no idea how it was even going to fit into my setup (it thankfully squeezed in, and now towers over my Nintendo Switch’s dock like some sort of tall, plastic bodyguard).

For that reason, I’m sure many gamers have been looking forward to seeing the so-called PlayStation 5 Slim. The heavily rumoured smaller PS5 model was seemingly accidentally confirmed by Microsoft in a recent court document, where it was claimed that Sony plans to “release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year” at the same price as a Digital Edition console. Sony is yet to officially acknowledge this, however.

Later this year, PS5 owners will be able to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Take a look below.

Now though, as Wccftech reports, prominent games industry insider Tom Henderson has taken to Twitter to discuss the alleged Slim console, and claims that it might not be the smaller device that everyone’s expecting.

“I don't know anything about the recent PlayStation Slim rumours and when it will be revealed,” Henderson wrote. “Logically, with a release set for September, a reveal soon makes sense. As for if it will be called the ‘Slim’ or not, I'm inclined to believe it will just be called a PS5 and branded as an improved model. It's my understanding that this new model will completely replace the current PlayStation 5 with the last units hitting shelves by the end of the year.”

He continued: “I've only seen prototypes. I don't think it will be ‘slim’ at all. Just slightly different dimensions but we'll see.”

Interesting. If what he’s saying is true, the alterations might not make much of a difference to the console’s size at all, which you’d think would defeat the point. Again though, take this with a pinch of salt, as Sony is yet to confirm if any of it is true.
