PlayStation 5 Pro won't be the best place to play GTA 6

The PlayStation 5 Pro reportedly won't be the best place to play GTA 6, after all.

With suggestions that Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to run at 60fps on the PlayStation 5’s mid-gen upgrade, the PlayStation 5 Pro, one tech expert does not think this will be the case unless Sony has something hidden up its sleeve.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is set to be Sony’s big mid-gen upgrade for the four-year old PlayStation 5 and is rumoured to be releasing later on this year. With the unit expected to perform much better than the original model, it is no surprise that many players are looking forward to getting stuck into Grand Theft Auto VI with the upgrade.

However, despite Sony expected to use the hype surrounding the next Grand Theft Auto to its advantage when selling the PlayStation 5 Pro, tech expert Richard Leadbetter does not think that the Pro will be up to the job.

When asked about the possibility of GTA VI being able to hit 60fps on the Pro, Leadbetter believes the increased CPU may be the reason behind this. Specs show that the upgraded console’s CPU will almost be identical to the base model. However, its “High CPU Frequency Mode” will allow it to reach 3.85 GHz, meaning its CPU will be around 10% more than the original PS5.

However, Leadbetter believes this 10% boost will not be enough unless Sony has some tricks up its sleeve. “You know, all of the sort of conjectures, ‘Hey, this is going to be a great box for Grand Theft Auto VI, we’ll be able to run that at 60 frames-per-second…’ unless there’s some magical CPU stuff being done by Rockstar, I suggest that’s not going to happen,” he says. “Extra 10% on clocks isn’t really going to do much at all.”

Leadbetter believes that players should not get their hopes up but there is a possibility of 60fps if changes are made before the game’s 2025 release.
