PlayStation releases 5 new free downloads, yours to keep without PS Plus

PlayStation has dropped a brand new download, and you don’t even need PS Plus to make it yours.

More often than not, whenever a major AAA video game has been released, other than updates to fix reported bugs or to deliver on promised features, post-launch content support soon ends.

That being said, there have been plenty of exceptions to that rule, such as Dying Light from Techland, a survival horror game originally released in 2015 that still receives content support from its developers ten years later.

Another game that has received a wealth of free content is one of the best PlayStation games to be released in 2024, Astro Bot. As I type this, I now have its theme music in my head, and the chances are, you do too.

In our review of Astro Bot, we said: “If you’ve grown up with PlayStation always having been a constant in your life, the journey you’re about to embark on will assuredly be the most heartwarming trip down memory lane. Astro Bot is a monumental triumph that I’m not going to stop thinking about for a very, very long time.

The latest free content update for Astro Bot is available to download right now.

You don’t have to download DLC from the store; it will simply download the next time you fire up the game. Unless downloads have been activated when your PlayStation 5 is in sleep mode.

The free download adds five new levels as part of the ‘Vicious Void Galaxy, which brings the total number of levels in Astro Bot to well over 90.

Just a heads up, I am about to reveal the two new Bots that also come with this free download, so consider this to be your spoiler warning.

The two new Bots that you can find hidden away in the new levels are Cloud and Sephiroth from Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII. Cloud is a reward from ‘High Inflation’, and Sephiroth will be unlocked when you’ve beaten all five new levels.
