It’s an exciting day for PlayStation 5 owners as a free new RPG is available to download now.

After the news that the PlayStation 5 as we know it is soon to be replaced by a newer, lighter model, Sony has also announced the arrival of Honkai: Star Rail to the console. The popular gacha-based game is the latest title by HoYoverse, the creators behind the much-loved Genshin Impact and was originally released on Android, iOS and PC. Now, as of today, the title will be available to download on the PS5.

With the goal to build a space-exploring band of fighters, known as the Astral Crew, that must take part in turn-based combat, Honkai: Star Rail has become as successful as Genshin Impact. The story focuses on the Honkai, a race of mechanical beings who have the goal of taking over the Earth and it is up to you and your crew to stop them. With multiple companions to choose from, each with their own backstory and abilities, you must team up to go head-to-head in a series of battles.

Honkai: Star Rail is free to download on the PlayStation 5 as of today 11 October and will take up 33.6GB of storage on your console. Additionally, if you have been playing the game on your mobile device or PC, you can activate cross-save by logging into your HoYoverse account on Star Rail’s PlayStation version. The same applies if you wish to keep switching between devices, just make sure to use one account so you don’t lose any progress.

“We believe PS5 is an ideal platform for Honkai: Star Rail, as it offers players the chance to experience stunning native 4K resolution gameplay and immerse themselves in the intricate details of this interstellar journey,” said HoYoverse’s technical lead. “With the advanced technical capabilities of the PS5, such as impressive SSD performance, our team was able to fully optimise the gameplay and graphics to deliver an exceptional experience.”

With the gacha title receiving regular updates and deals, it will be the perfect game to lose the hours with.
