If your current console of choice is the PlayStation 5, then there's a new release that you should be aware of.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was one of the best single-player experiences of the PS4 generation, following the titular Senua, a Pict warrior, as she struggles against otherworldly entities to save her lover's soul from the clutches of the goddess Hela.

Though it is undoubtedly a stunning looking game, it's very much a part of the PlayStation 4 generation and hasn't received an upgrade since. Until now. An upgraded next-gen version of the game is now available to download on the store. In even better news, it's totally free if you already own the original game.

The new native PS5 edition can also be downloaded as a separate, new game at the price of £24.99/$29.99 on the PlayStation Store. There is also a bundled version containing the original game on PS5 alongside the ported follow-up for £69.99/$69.99.

If you own the original on PS4, the free upgrade is also available via the PS Store, so navigate to the page and the free download should be available if the game is already in your history.

If you're yet to play either of the Hellblade games, the first remains the standout offering but both are impressive efforts in storytelling with a memorable protagonist that's well worth getting into the weeds with.

The pseudo-AAA game was developed by a team of just 20 people, entirely independently from major publishing labels. Though developer Ninja Theory has since made the jump to Xbox, Senua's Sacrifice remains the best example of their development prowess.

The PS5 upgrade features some major visual fidelity improvements on an already very pretty game, with some additional quality of life improvements that should make Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice better to play than ever.
