PlayStation 5 gamers urged to check out awesome feature Sony didn't tell us about

If you own a PlayStation 5 you need to check this awesome setting that Sony tried to keep secret

Aside from the stunningly beautiful visuals and immersive gameplay, new-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has a lot of fantastic bells and whistles. Some may be common knowledge, while others may have been hiding in plain sight all along.

Some of the more obvious features of the PlayStation 5 are the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller adding an extra layer of immersion with players not only feeling the weight of pulling a trigger in Call of Duty or Ellie’s bow in The Last of Us Part I, but every bump in terrain or car collision in racers such as Gran Turismo 7. What’s more, the PS5’s 3D Audio helps to take players immersion to the next level.

Check out the 3D Audio trailer for PS5 below!

In a nutshell, 3D Audio can turn just about any standard headset into a mini surround system if you will. A low-cost headset may not be to the audio quality of something like the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro, but with 3D Audio activated, you’ll be able to hear almost every footstep of an enemy creeping up or every clank in a darkened hallway in the most eerie of horror games. The quality of 3D Audio is hard to explain, but once you experience it, there’s no going back.

However, what if we told you that 3D Audio also translates to TV and movies? Sure, many of you will already know of this, but it’s something that Sony hasn't highlighted all that much (for whatever reason) that 3D Audio works just as well on movies as it does video games.

“3D Audio also works with 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD movies,” announced Redditor Nate-Pierce to fellow users on the thread. “I tried it myself via a Pixar Blu-ray movie with a home theatre calibrator, playing all 7.1 channels. With 3D Audio for headphones enabled, it creates a virtual surround sound experience, where I sensed the distinct surround left and right channels. Turning it on/off was a night and day difference.”

“This is honestly a great way to enjoy a near-home-theatre-like experience from a minimalistic approach. A wired connection to the console is, of course, recommended than the wireless controller input for the best audio quality possible,” they continued.

If you’ve not already had 3D Audio enabled on your PlayStation 5 console, simply go into ‘Settings’ then ‘Sound’ and select the desired 3D Audio choices for TV speakers and headphones. Job done.
