Despite the PlayStation 4 coming to the end of its admirable life span, it seems as though there may be life in the old dog yet following a surprise update.
Since November 2013, the PlayStation 4 has been the faithful companion of many a gamer and even when the PlayStation 5 came along in 2020, many still refused to give up on the ol’ reliable.
Giving us award-winning titles such as The Last of Us, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, the PlayStation 4 will go down in history as one of the most successful Sony consoles.
However, with the PlayStation 5 now being the current-gen console and with rumours of a PlayStation 6 on the way, many users are finally ready to give up on the PS4.

But wait!
It seems as though Sony has surprised us all by releasing its software update 13.00 for the PlayStation 4.
Ok, so, before you get excited, this is a very minor update but the good news is that it just goes to show that Sony is unwilling to give up with the PS4 even if some live-service games no longer support the old-gen console.
Software update 13.00 for the PlayStation 4 adds one simple thing: improvement for the messages and usability on some screens.

The end.
The update will be installed automatically (if you have this enabled) or by heading into settings but let’s face it, it is hardly a software update that is going to change very much.
Nevertheless, it is here and free to download for all those who still use the PlayStation 4.
In the meantime, many of us are gearing up for Sony to finally announce the PlayStation 6 despite some feeling that it is just too soon.

After all, the PlayStation 5 was only launched back in 2020 and that was during a pandemic, stock shortages and scalpers which saw many unable to get their hands on it for months or years later.
As a result, many of us are only now getting to know Sony’s current-gen console and with hardly any exclusive games to its name, it is no surprise that many users are not ready for us to move on to the PlayStation 6 just yet.
However, maybe the PS5 will follow in the footsteps of the PS4 and live on for a lot longer than we originally thought with new surprise updates still being released over a decade later.
