It is the end of an era as support for the PlayStation 4 is expected to gradually cease for good with major developers and publishers set to stop supporting the last-gen console.
First released way back in November 2013, the PlayStation 4 has been a faithful companion for gamers over the past decade and more.
However, after its successor, the PlayStation 5, was released in 2020, as with many last-gen consoles, the PlayStation 4 slowly started to reach obscurity.
Nevertheless, many big releases are still launched on the PS4, as well as the PS5, to this day.

That being said, a recent report reveals that major developers and publishers are set to finally move on from the PlayStation 4 when it comes to their upcoming game launches.
This report comes courtesy of GamesIndustry where writer Rob Fahey shared the following information about the PS4’s uncertain future: “The tipping point is already in sight; installed bases of newer systems are high enough for lots of companies to start turning out the lights on PS4.”
Although it is sad news, it makes sense.
Not only do developers and publishers have to spend money on developing a PS4 version of their game, but they also have to account for the limitations that the last-gen console has to offer.

If they can now get away with skipping this step due to the majority of players making the leap to the PS5 or PS5 Pro, it makes sense that they will take it.
Fahey continues by explaining that the technical limitations of the PS4 are finally starting to weigh on the future of game releases.
Of course, this information has not been officially shared by Sony and it is also unclear when support will finally stop for the PS4 if true.
Nevertheless, it is a sad day in gaming history as the PS4 has been a constant companion for the past decade and beyond.
