The PlayStation 3 has lost one of its most popular features, and it could mean that the console has finally run its course.
Many would consider the PlayStation 3 to be one of Sony’s best consoles, and that would be quite the statement considering that pretty much every console since the company's inception in 1994 has knocked it out of the park.
The PlayStation 3 treated us to some absolute all-time greats, such as The Last of Us, the Uncharted trilogy, God of War III, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and more.

Also, depending on what version of the PlayStation 3 you own, you could also use it to play physical PS1 and PS2 games. It’s one of the main reasons why my PS3 still sits proudly in my living room.
Another fantastic feature of the PlayStation 3 is its apps, or at least, that was one of its best features. However, with the console being 20 years old, it makes sense that some of those apps are no longer supported.
With that in mind, recently, the PlayStation 3 removed support for the Netflix app. Meaning, that all those PS3s that are located in bedrooms, used exclusively for this app, are pretty much obsolete at this point.
As we reported in February 2026, it was revealed that the PlayStation 3 would be losing its Netflix support, and now, we’re seeing the results of that action.
“PS3 Active Users Dropped from 1.1 million in February to 240k in March Due to Netflix Ending Support,” posted Redditor Ph0enixes, sharing information from Twitter Millie A.
“For those not aware of Millie A, she is an insider who posts leaks and information now and then, but not enough to be as well known as Nate or Tom Henderson,” added Ph0enixes.
“That’s still impressive for an older console. Mine is still plugged in,” replied mightymonkeyman.
“My PS3 is still going strong. At this point, it's just a Guitar Hero machine, though,” revealed a_Jedi_i_am.
“Still playing Persona on my slim PS3. Great system!” said xman_2k2.
It’s worth keeping in mind that Sony hasn't released official numbers for the PlayStation 3 active player base since support for Netflix had ended, so we should take this information with a pinch of salt.
