Astro Bot is the gift that keeps giving, as we’ve now been blessed with more free DLC that includes characters from Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The Astro franchise has been on an interesting journey since it debuted as a series of free mini-games with The Playroom for the PlayStation 4 in 2013. We were then treated to another free game in 2016 with The Playroom VR.

In 2018, the series introduced its first paid game, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, another PSVR entry. At this point, all of the Astro games were fantastic, including the free titles with the series improving with every new release.

The series upped the ante with Astro’s Playroom, a free PlayStation 5 platforming game that I’m guessing many would have happily paid for, it was that good. Seriously, if you own a PS5 and have never played this delight, you need to change that ASAP, you won’t regret it (plus, it’s an easy Platinum).

However, this year, the series released its first fully-priced AAA game with Astro Bot, also for the PlayStation 5. Some were initially put off with this being a £60 game but in my humble opinion, it’s worth every penny, as indicated by its GOTY accolade at last night’s The Game Awards.

In our review of Astro Bot, we said: “If you’ve grown up with PlayStation always has been a constant in your life, the journey you’re about to embark on will assuredly be the most heartwarming trip down memory lane. Astro Bot is a monumental triumph that I’m not going to stop thinking about for a very, very long time.”

Astro’s Playroom was supported with a generous helping of free DLC, for a game that was already free. That trend has continued with Astro Bot after the developers have treated us to free speed-running challenges that you certainly do not want to miss.

Now, even more free DLC has been released for Astro Bot and it’s all about celebrating the festive season. One of the joys of Astro Bot is the fantastic PlayStation cameos including the likes of Kratos and Atreus from God of War, Ellie and Joel from The Last of Us, Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and many more.

In the latest free DLC for Astro Bot, not only does it include a charming free Christmas level but we also get some new PlayStation mascot cameos with Peter Parker and Miles Morales from Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series. But more importantly, it also includes Spider-Cat!

To claim the latest free DLC for Astro Bot, you simply have to update the game, which may have already been downloaded if updates can be activated while your console is in sleep mode. If not, it will automatically download the next time you fire up the game with an internet connection.

Astro Bot is out now exclusively on PlayStation 5.
