Jak And Daxter Reboot Leak Sounds Too Good To Be True

We can only hope

Sometimes the oldies are the goldies and that seems to be the thoughts of Santa Monica Studio following rumours that the studio is working on bringing back an iconic IP.

Originally developed by Naughty Dog and owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Jak and Daxtar franchise took the early 2000s by storm.

With the first entry, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, released back in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, it was considered a defining franchise for the console so it is perhaps no wonder that fans have been calling out for a reboot over the years.

Well, according to a series of reports, Santa Monica Studio, which is best known for its God of War franchise, may be working on the next Jak and Daxter game.

Earlier this year, Jason Schreier revealed that Santa Monica’s next project would not be a brand-new IP but rather the return of an old one.

“I'll put it this way: it's not a new IP but it might feel like one,” he said to ResetEra.

Maybe that's why people are confused. Please don't ask me more questions about this - if I wind up reporting more information at any point in the future it'll be in an article, not on a forum.”

Previously, Cory Barlog, the current creative director at Santa Monica Studios, took to Twitter back in 2021 to joke that he was currently working on The Last of Us but with Jak and Daxter instead. The post has since been deleted but it was enough to capture fan’s attention.

Of course, neither of these instances confirm a Jak and Daxter remake but it sure is a lot of coincidences.

Following this, fans took to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours to share their thoughts on the potential reboot.

“This would be a dream but 1% chance it’s true,” one user claimed.

Another fan added, “Cory Barlog overhauled the GOW series into something new and fresh.

It isn't a stretch to think Sony would pay him and his team to do the same thing to another IP.”

It remains to be seen if the Jack and Daxter reboot will be brought to life but right now, we can only hope.
