Ico developer Fumito Ueda has acknowledged the possibility of a remake, following the closure of Shadow of the Colossus remake developer Bluepoint Games.
Ueda’s work has often been cited as some of the greatest video games of all time, with Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian being some of the top rated games you can play on PlayStation.
Bluepoint, the studio behind the 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, was closed by Sony Interactive Entertainment earlier this year, five years after being acquired by the PlayStation platform holder.
It was reported at the time that Sony had got Bluepoint working on a live service God of War game, a decision which baffled many as it wasn’t exactly within the developer’s wheelhouse.

Ueda himself has also acknowledged the closure of Bluepoint Games, and also expressed his regret that the studio never got to do a remake of Ico in the same vein as Shadow of the Colossus.
“So obviously, we had no heads-up,” Ueda told IGN regarding Bluepoint's closure. “We're not directly in relation with any project, so I heard about it at the same time you guys probably did in the news, and it was disappointing and sad to hear.
“I would have hoped that maybe in the future there could be a chance to work with them on something. So yeah, it's very sad to hear the news.”

When asked what this “something” was, Ueda explained that it “would be hard to answer."
Though, we can take a guess.
“I mean, maybe I guess, as we know how Bluepoint operated, is that they work on really good remakes, right? So it would be maybe something [like that]. But yeah, it's just sad that they're no longer around.”
He then replied to a follow-up question asked by IGN with “Maybe Ico.”
Bluepoint Games worked on several remakes and remasters over its 20 year history, with titles like Shadow of the Colossus, Demon’s Souls, and Gravity Rush among the games it revived for modern platforms.
It also took charge on several remastered collections ported to newer systems, including the God of War Collection, The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (not related to the remake), and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
Its porting efforts also led to the studio being brought in for support on games like Titanfall, Flower, and God of War Ragnarok.
Meanwhile, Ueda is working on his fourth game as director, titled gen ATLAS. It’s a sci-fi game featuring giant robots, a dramatic distance from the fantasy settings his previous games featured.
gen ATLAS doesn’t have a release date, though it’ll be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
