God Of War fans losing it over Kratos' long-awaited return

A Godly announcement awaits!

It seems that the recently rumoured God of War remastered collection could be announced sooner than we think.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of when Santa Monica Studio released God of War in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. Even today, despite its dated visuals and gameplay, God of War is an absolute blast and can be played with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

Check out the God of War trailer below!

Since 2005, the God of War series has become one of Sony PlayStation’s flagship brands and is arguably stronger than ever thanks to its soft reboot in 2018 on PlayStation 4.

At the time of writing, God of War (2018) has spawned one sequel, namely God of War Ragnarök in 2022. While it hasn't been officially confirmed by either Sony or Santa Monica Studio, fans won't be surprised if we get a third game inspired by Norse mythology.

However, until that time may or may not arrive, rumours have been circulating that in celebration of the series’ 20th anniversary, we’re going to be treated to a collection of new remasters.

This wouldn't be the first time that we’ll see a remaster of the series with the likes of the PSP, PS Vita, PS3 and PS4 all benefiting from a Kratos makeover.

It’s of course worth taking rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise because at the time of writing, we don’t know for sure what God of War remasters would be included in a collection, whether that’s in a single release or multiple.

That being said, video game journalist Jeff Grub believes that an announcement could be made as early as next month during a 20th-anniversary presentation, and understandably, fans are losing it.

“I hope Sony pulls something like Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection,” said Redditor MrBeyonde. “All 2005-2013 games in one pack would be great.”

“I just hope it’s a remake, but I think it will be a remaster,” DarkDaniel_01 replied.

“After the Days Gone remaster was announced, I believe it,” exclaimed Healthy-Career7226.

Much of the thread is full of excitement but some fans joked that it might end up being a remaster of the 2018 game. Surely Sony won't do that, right?

As soon as Sony and Santa Monica Studio drop official details, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
