It was just over a month ago that many of us finished work on a Friday and sat down for a weekend gaming session only to discover that the PlayStation Network was down for no apparent reason.

Remaining down for over 24-hours, Sony has still yet to reveal what caused the outage but as a way to apologise to its users, it has since found ways to make it to them, especially PlayStation Plus members.

Starting on 7 February and finally coming back online on the 8, the PSN outage not only stopped players from being able to access online multiplayer titles but also a wide selection of single-player titles due to many new releases requiring a constant internet connection.

As a result, the PlayStation was practically unusable for many so it is no surprise that Sony is trying to rectify the issue.

That is why the company recently sent out emails to its user base and it read as follows:

“Greetings from Sony!...

We appreciate your patience as we work to provide five extra days of PlayStation Plus to the members affected by the recent PlayStation Network outage.

Former PlayStation Plus members (whose membership expired since the outage) will receive five days of free access, matching their last membership tier. These updates will be automatically applied to the user's account with no action needed on their part.

We'll provide another update once the extensions and free access have been granted.”

The email was recently shared over on r/PlayStationPlus and it was not long before fellow users commented with their own thoughts about the offering.

User RainbowStereo2137 said, “At this point I bet on Sony waiting until we just forget and move on.”

However, user Asimb0mb is feeling more optimistic.

“Appreciate that they're doing it for people whose PS+ expired recently too,” they wrote.

“Happened to me, it expired the week after the outage and I haven't extended it yet because I'm not playing any online games right now.”

That being said, for another user, Sony’s timing is all off.

“Nooo, why the free additional 5 days??” They wrote.

“Now my subscription is gonna renew AFTER the Lunar New Year Sale ffs…”

Whether you like it or not, the five extra days are being handed out to PS Plus users so it is worth checking to see if you are one of them.
