Far Cry 20th anniversary free download available for next 24 hours

It pains us to say this, mainly because it reminds us that time marches on, but Far Cry is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

With industry leakers teasing that an announcement about Far Cry 7 is coming soon, it’s all too easy to forget the monumental milestone the OG title is celebrating.

Fortunately, PlayStation is here to remind us with a delightful freebie longtime fans will be eager to obtain. Here’s the thing, though: you only have 24 hours to claim it.

PlayStation Stars has a “rare collectible” waiting for anyone who wants a digital doggo to adorn their profile.

The ‘Far Cry 5 Boomer Digital Collectible’ may reference a later game in the series, but you can play any of the Far Cry titles – Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, Far Cry 6, Far Cry Primal, Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition – to get your reward.

As PlayStation is quick to remind us, most of these games are available via PlayStation Plus Extra. The open-world experience of one of these particular games is among the best we’ve ever played.

Obviously, though, for those of you who don’t subscribe, the task of obtaining your new digital companion becomes harder.

What is more, the deadline before your chance of getting the collectible expires is 19 June, aka tomorrow.

Thankfully, you don’t have to complete one of the aforementioned adventures to unlock your prize, merely begin playing one of them. It's but a small mercy considering the tight timeframe.

Should the ticking clock prove too much for you, you can at least escape into 250 hours’ worth of free games thanks to PS Plus.

Hopefully, you’ll be able to add the Far Cry 20th anniversary freebie to your collection. But if you miss out, at least you can celebrate its birthday by revisiting the old games.
