Zelda: Breath of the Wild Alternative Launches on PC, Well Worth Playing

Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series consoles soon-ish

This Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-esque adventure has only just dropped on Steam, but it’s already proving to be a hit with reviewers.

If you’re after a new The Legend of Zelda-style game to fill the void, then there’s no reason to sit around waiting for Nintendo to finally announce a new game in the series.

Cloudheim, an online co-op action RPG from developer and publisher Noodle Cat Games, just released in early access on Steam less than 48 hours ago, and it would seem that the hype behind this one was well-placed (for once).

Said hype has been building ever since Noodle Cat announced Cloudheim earlier this year back in February, because everything from the art style to the combat made it look like the co-op Zelda game of our dreams.

Thankfully, based on the “Mostly Positive” review score on Steam, the devs have seemingly delivered on their ambitious idea– which makes it all the more impressive that this one released in early access.

Here’s what some of the reviewers over on Steam have to say about the game in its current state.

“Fun and weird little game. I played the demo for a day and fell in love with it, despite all its flaws, and the full release is exciting just to see the rest of the content they have to offer. Definitely glad they're starting in early access, even though the game is very fun it still needs a lot of work and they absolutely need the feedback”, writes Steam user Fepni.

“Overall the game is definitely an easy recommend for the price. There's easily enough content to get your money's worth as long as you're not expecting something groundbreaking. It's a simple, fairly easy game to run around in and see what's there.”

“This is a FANTASTIC game that reminds you of how fun open zone beat em' ups with your friends are. It's gorgeous, and the combat is chaotic and fun. Base building is adorable, and I especially love how NPCs come to your base to shop…” writes Steam reviewer The Wild Westin.

“If they continue to add content over time and tweak the UI and menus to be more beginner friendly, this is going to be one of the greats.”

Don’t feel too jealous if you’re a console gamer though, because Noodle Cat Games has already announced that PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X ports of the game are on the way (although you won’t be able to get your hands on them until the game leaves early access in 2026).

No word on a Nintendo Switch 2 port yet, but hopefully one will be on the way eventually… provided Nintendo doesn’t take issue with any of the Zelda comparisons.
