Stardew Valley remains very well supported by its developer, Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone.

In between official updates though, mods are on hand to help keep us occupied.

And it’s ‘The Forgotten Woods’, a creation by NexusMods user Azathii, that I’d like to highlight today.

It goes without saying that this one will only be of interest to those of you playing the title on PC.

If you fall into that category though, ‘The Forgotten Woods’ is an incredible new expansion that adds several maps to the game.

“A Secret Woods expansion adding new maps to the game for foragers and adventurers alike! Plant trees for wood, create a tapping farm, gather different foragables, hunt forgotten treasure and discover hidden secrets,” the mod’s synopsis reads.

If you enjoy Stardew Valley, you’ll love Hello Kitty Island Adventure. I can’t put it down.

For those of you who enjoy foraging, the mod’s maps allow trees to be planted into grass to be used as wood/tapping farms.

These maps will also feature plenty of regenerating oak and maple trees for that same purpose, as well as regenerating hardwood stumps.

“Secret woods fish” can be found in these maps’ waters, and there will be berry bushes for harvesting salmonberries and blackberries.

There are three main new foraging areas: Forgotten Farm, Forgotten Hill, and Forgotten Shrine.

The former includes vanilla secret woods items, like mushrooms and holly, as well as seasonal vegetables while Forgotten Hill adds seasonal flowers into the mix.

Forgotten Shrine will spawn seasonal fruit as well as “other foragables when the weather turns colder”.

As for the adventurers amongst you, there are “six hidden additional areas/maps to find”, each with their own unique treasures.

There’s also a “five-part treasure hunt” including a new sword that’s unobtainable in the base game, as well as four hidden interactive seasonal shrines to seek out.

The modder had the following advice: “If something looks like a note/letter/plaque, it can be read and will usually be a clue. When looking for hidden areas, always look out for stepping stones on the floor; these will guide you to new/secret places.”

This mod really does tick all of the boxes.

If you want to try it out yourself, simply hop on over to NexusMods, hit that free download button.
