If Star Wars Outlaws hasn’t scratched the itch for you, and it is proving to be divisive, then it may be time to revisit a classic.

From LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, this franchise is packed with games that cater to all tastes and playstyle preferences.

But today, I want to remind you of the banger that is Star Wars: Empire At War.

Originally launched back in 2006, this Petroglyph Games classic is a real-time strategy game featuring three modes: Campaign, Galactic Conquest, and Skirmish.

Essentially, if you haven’t already guessed from the pretty revealing title, the game sees you engage in a series of both land and space battles - with players able to assume the role of both the Rebel Alliance and the Empire.

The game received an update, Forces of Corruption, several months after launch but it’s hardly gone on to become an enduring franchise.

If you’ve been yearning for Empire At War to receive a new lease of life though then you’re in luck.

The Star Wars: Empire mod could be just the thing for you.

ICYMI: Take a look at Star Wars Outlaws in action below.

Star Wars: Empire is a total conversion mod for the game that seeks to “portray the dark times and open warfare of the Imperial Period, beginning in 19 BBY and (currently) finishing at 4ABY”.

Many campaigns from that particular period will be included from the Sy Myrthian Insurrection to the Western Reaches Operation, with Operation Skyhook, Strike Fear and Zaarin Insurrection also appearing.

You can choose to play as one of three major factors: the Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, and Separatist Holdouts.

And the mod’s creator, moddb user r_forest, goes on to note that a number of small factions are also available. Those include the Hutt Cartels, Hapes Consortium, and Corporate Sector Authority.

It goes without saying that you’ll need a copy of Star Wars: Empire At War: Forces of Corruption on PC to get involved but if you tick that box, you can nab Star Wars: Empire entirely for free from moddb very soon.

While r_forest hasn’t yet set an exact release date, they have confirmed that the first playable version of the mod will include a basic economy, resources, heroes, and units - with additional features landing in future updates.

You can join the mod’s Discord server to stay up to date on its progress.
