The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can take over 100 hours to finish if you take your time, even longer with expansions.

If you love everything about the Elder Scrolls world, this probably sounds like a great deal and you're likely keen to expand your game, where possible.

You can do that with Krein, available to download for free now.

It’s better than sitting around and waiting for more info on The Elder Scrolls VI, which so many years later is still hiding behind this teaser trailer.

Krein is a mod for either the OG version of Skyrim, which you can still play if you want, or the Special Edition of the game which is a bit more easily accessible by today’s standards.

The mod’s description describes it as a “large-scale, story-driven, puzzle-oriented campaign for Skyrim".

As for what it adds, you’re getting a whole new map to explore some truly distinct environments from vanilla Skyrim, which is exclusively woodland and snowy mountains.

There are also some quests to undertake as well as general explore-y and side quest-y bits to be getting on with, so it’s worth putting aside a few hours to see what it’s all about.

If you like that and want even more bang for your buck, there are plenty more expansions out there to choose from, and if you’re happy with the base game but want to tweak it ever so slightly, other mods will help you do that too.

The Elder Scrolls VI has a lot of work to do is what I’m getting at here, as not only will it have to be bigger and better than Skyrim, it feels like it’ll need to go beyond it truly to set itself apart and be the ultimate Elder Scrolls game.
