You can download a free fan-made expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim right now that adds a whole new island to the game.

The talents of the modding community never fail to impress me whether it’s related to Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls or Fallout. Heck, there are a ton of vibrant modding communities outside of Bethesda, that love nothing more than to breathe new life into the games we love.

Check out the Skyrim Anniversary Edition trailer below!

It’s still quite baffling to think that after all these years, Skyrim is still going strong today following its initial release in 2011 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since that time, it has been ported to every console generation with this current era likely to be its last, right?

The Skyrim modding community has released thousands of free expansions, weapons and armour, visual and gameplay overhauls as well as fixing some of those infamous Bethesda bugs.

The Skyrim mod that is the topic of today’s article is ‘The Whalestone Isles’ created by Greguire, and it’s free to download now via Nexusmods.

It’s fair to say that Skyrim fans are impressed with the look of this mod such as Redditor niceshotpilot who said: “I have seen others create mods that, while nice-looking, don't really gel aesthetically to Skyrim as a whole. Yet, you’ve made some creative choices that still FEEL like Skyrim.”

‘The Whalestone Isles’ is in its early alpha stage of development and the modder has warned gamers that experiencing sudden crashes is to be expected. At the time of writing, ‘The Whalestone Isles’ looks to remain a PC exclusive.

That being said, as long as your experience goes relatively crash-free, it looks like it could be a blast exploring this whole new island in Tamriel. Judging by the few screenshots on Nexusmods, it’s giving me major The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind vibes.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It’s also included in Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.
