Skyrim: Echoes of The Ancients Will Lure You Back For Another Playthrough

Back to Tamriel we go

I must admit, I do enjoy a good peruse through NexusMods.

Do I have time to download every mod I like the look of? Absolutely not, but it’s always fun simply taking a look at what it is that fans are cooking up.

One new creation I’ve stumbled across is ‘Echoes of the Ancients’, a new item and lore mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

If you’re a sucker for lore like me, you’re likely going to want to load up a new playthrough to give this one a whirl.

Created by Phereniki, the mod essentially introduces a series of weapons and “lost spells” all spread throughout the game’s world with their own unique lore.

“Long ago, the warriors of old left more than bones in the frozen ruins of the north. Their strength, their craft, and their secrets linger still, bound to weapons and tomes waiting to be claimed,” the synopsis reads.

“These relics lie scattered in the Pale’s forgotten corners: a ruin watched by the restless dead, a cavern choked with animal bones, a lonely shelf of snow, and a hidden cave glowing with coloured light. Each place holds its own secrets, and each treasure its own power, meant for those who wander, following traces of the past.”

It’s a cool premise, isn’t it?

Those who download the mod can sniff out the Fjorsbite Axe (Frost Axe), Kryvolt Dagger (Shock Dagger), Runebound Hammer (Paralysis Hammer), Harrowed Bow (Damage Buff Bow), Flareburst (Destruction), Ancestor's Shock (Destruction), Forsaken Might (Restoration), and Swift Sigil (Restoration).

As the synopsis makes clear, each weapon or spell is tied to an “atmospheric, immersive location” and players can find a journal in the Drunken Huntsman with clues as to each of their whereabouts.

The mod is reportedly widely compatible with other major mods and is considered to be safe to install mid-playthrough, which is always good to hear.

It goes without saying that you’ll need a PC and a copy of Skyrim: Special Edition in order to enjoy it but I’m sure you know that.

The mod is totally free and can be enjoyed on NexusMods now.
