A previously console-exclusive Silent Hill game is now confirmed to be getting an unofficial PC release 14 years after launch.
Russian developer Aleksey Shevchenko has released a trailer for his unofficial port of Silent Hill Downpour, which was released back in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Although many modern unofficial PC ports are based on recompilations, Shevchenko says that this native PC version isn’t based on any existing recompilations. Instead, he has transferred all the content over from the console by himself, and it will be adapted into a native version from that.
The trailer showcases some of the exclusive features that Silent Hill Downpour will be getting on PC, such as increased resolutions up to 1440p, as well as support for 60 frames per second.

The resolution and framerate bump will naturally improve the way the game looks, but this unofficial port also adds enhanced lighting and shadows to improve the game’s creepy atmosphere.
As this was originally a console game, controller support is obviously included, but Shevchenko has also added support for keyboard and mouse controls, along with a few other technical hijinks such as being able to quick-save and quick-load, and being able to skip cutscenes.
Meanwhile, Shevchenko’s port of the game also includes restored cut content, with deleted cutscenes, dialogues, notes, quests, 3D models, and weapons included in the long list of things featured in this port.
For those after something completely new, though, there’s even a deleted boss fight that is teased to make an appearance in the release.

Shevchenko has not given a concrete release date for the port, but does mention on Reddit that he intends for it to come out in the autumn. Hopefully, that’ll give him enough time to implement every feature he wants to, and iron out any bugs that may arise as a result.
Obviously, just like with other unofficial PC ports which have come about in the last few years, you will need to own the original software in order to play it. That’s so the port can verify that you own the game and be able to pull the assets for you to interact with while playing.
Silent Hill Downpour was originally met with mixed reception when it launched for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012. Famously developed by Vatra Games under a tight timeframe and budget, players at the time criticised the game’s combat and technical hitches, but were more enthusiastic about the characters and writing.
Silent Hill Downpour’s native PC version comes not long after the reveal of the Silent Hill 1 unofficial PC port, which was revealed earlier this year and is based on decompilation efforts to preserve the game in its original PS1 form.
With these releases, nearly the entire Silent Hill series will be available to play on PC as native ports, except for Silent Hill: The Short Message and Silent Hill: Origins.
