If you’re a fan of Red Dead Redemption and Dark Souls, there’s a new western RPG you’ll want to keep firmly on your radar.
The upcoming RPG blends the gritty atmosphere and open-world western setting of Rockstar Games’ RDR with the brutal combat and punishing gameplay associated with FromSoftware’s Dark Souls. The result is an intriguing Soulslike FPS that’s scheduled to launch in 2026.
While Red Dead Redemption and Dark Souls are vastly different games, both have become hugely popular franchises in their respective genres. So, a western RPG that combines the open-world exploration of Red Dead Redemption with the challenging combat of Dark Souls might sound like an unusual combination, but it could prove to be a winning formula if executed properly.
That’s exactly what makes this upcoming RPG so interesting. The game takes the dusty frontier setting and exploration associated with Red Dead Redemption and mixes it with Soulslike combat, dark fantasy and RPG progression, creating something that looks distinctly different from a typical Soulslike genre release.

Guns of Eschaton is a Red Dead Redemption meets Dark Souls RPG coming in 2026
The game in question is Guns of Eschaton. It’s a challenging Soulslike first-person shooter and action RPG developed by indie studio Eschatology Entertainment and published by 4Divinity.
The game also has an intriguing creative pedigree. Its art director, the late Viktor Antonov, was renowned for his work on Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, and Guns of Eschaton represents his final creative vision.
First announced in June 2026, Guns of Eschaton has now received a fresh gameplay showcase at Gamescom 2026. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it has the potential to be one of the year's biggest surprise hits, particularly for players looking for something fresh from the increasingly crowded Soulslike genre.
Inspired by the 19th-century American frontier, Guns of Eschaton combines challenging Soulslike combat with striking visuals, exploration, deep character progression and extensive buildcrafting. Those are all familiar ingredients for fans of FromSoftware’s games, but Guns of Eschaton puts its own distinctive Western spin on the formula.
The game can also be played solo or in co-op, allowing players to experience its dangerous world alone or alongside a friend.
