In need of something spooky to play? The Epic Games Store has you covered.

As I’m sure you’re aware, there’s always a free game to be nabbed from the Epic Games Store, with the eligible game changing on a weekly basis.

On occasion, you can even nab two free games with the refresh taking place every Thursday.

We’re not talking about riffraff here either that you’d rather not clog up your library with.

The games featured for free on the Epic Games Store are typically well-known or recent titles, including this week’s pick.

Just ahead of Halloween, you can now grab the excellent Fear The Spotlight for free which would normally set you back £15.99 - not a bad saving.

Developed by Cozy Game Pals and published by Blumhouse Games, Fear The Spotlight was originally launched in October of 2024.

It’s an “atmospheric third-person horror adventure” that revolves around friends Vivian and Amy who sneak into their school after hours, experiencing a séance gone wrong in the process.

There’s a wonderful nostalgic feeling to the game, even though it only launched last year.

That’s because Fear The Spotlight is inspired by the horror greats of the PS1 generation and thus opts for a slight polygonal art style.

In our review here at GAMINGbible, we awarded the game a score of eight, writing, “Fear the Spotlight is perhaps the first game to scare me in a while and while it is a little trapped in the past, it does a wonderful job of unsettling the player enough that you’ll be thinking about it for some time to come.”

On Metacritic, it boasts a Metascore of 83 and a User Score of 7.9.

The gameplay revolves largely around puzzle-solving and stealth encounters.

You’ll need to keep a low profile as you solve “tactile puzzles” within Sunnyside High in what developers describe as an “ode to classic 90s teen horror”.

You may have recognised the name Blumhouse that I mentioned earlier, a company best known for producing first-rate horror films.

Well, fun fact, Fear The Spotlight was the first game to be published by the then newly formed Blumhouse Games.

How to redeem

To download this game, simply head on over to the Epic Games Store listing and press ‘Get’.

It’s free until 30 October at 3pm GMT.

As with all Epic Games Store free offerings, this is yours to keep forever, so long as the game doesn’t get delisted or something to that effect.

It’s not tied to any subscriptions or time limitations.
