If you’re a fan of Mass Effect and Starfield, then you’re going to want to check out this huge sci-fi RPG for free, but you only have a limited time.

When it comes to epic sci-fi adventures, it doesn't get much better than BioWare’s Mass Effect series. Well, perhaps other than Mass Effect Andromeda, which, when released in 2017, fell well below the standards set by the original trilogy.

That being said, Mass Effect Andromeda is in a much better state now when it comes to performance, so I can hand on heart recommend checking it out if you were initially put off. If all else fails, you can never go wrong with Commander Shepard and the N7 Normandy crew.

As for Bethesda’s Starfield, when this launched on PC and Xbox Series X/S in 2023, it came with a massive amount of hype. Perhaps so much hype that there was no way Starfield was ever going to live up to some expectations.

Sure, much like Mass Effect Andromeda, Starfield wasn't the best game at launch, especially with those infamous Bethesda bugs, but after a series of meaty updates, it’s closer to the game that many sci-fi fans may have hoped for.

Speaking of expectations and hype, it doesn't get much bigger than Star Citizen, developed and published by Cloud Imperium Games. To say that this game is huge would be a massive understatement.

Not only did its 2013 Kickstarter campaign raise over $2.1 million from just over 34,000 backers, but post-launch, it has reportedly raised a whopping $900 million in funding. So it’s not only massive in terms of in-game content, but it’s also one of the most expensive video games ever. Oh, and it’s still in its alpha phase of development.

Typically, to play Star Citizen, there is an entry fee, as with most video games that are not free-to-play, with prices ranging from just under £70 to an eye-watering £1,000.

However, you can play Star Citizen right now for free, but only for a limited time. So, if you’ve ever been tempted by this huge sci-fi RPG, now could be the perfect time to check it out.

The free Star Citizen trial was announced during the recent ‘Intergalactic Aerospace Expo’, and during the trial, you’ll have access to nearly 200 ships. The trial is active right now and ends on Wednesday 3 December 2025.

What’s more, on Saturday 29 November, you’ll be able to try all four finalist ships of the annually community-voted ‘Ship Showdown’.

To play Star Citizen, you will need a capable PC, and it’s accessible via its official launcher. All the need-to-know details can be found on its dedicated website.
