Mass Effect meets Halo in limited-time free RPG

Combining all of the best sci-fi elements of Halo and Mass Effect, this upcoming update for one hit MMORPG is arriving for a limited time only.

Set to launch on 7 August, Breakthrough is the next big update for 2024’s The First Descendant.

Developed by NEXON Games, The First Descendant is a third-person MMORPG and sees players become Descendants who are in charge of maintaining humanity’s survival.

Offering both solo and co-op missions, Descendants can team up to defeat giant bosses courtesy of a wide arsenal and a series of abilities.

Now to celebrate its upcoming season, the Breakthrough update is set to arrive to The First Descendant and it aims to combine all the best moments of titles such as Halo and Mass Effect.

“The Breakthrough begins,” the official Summer Game Fest Twitter account shared, alongside an accompanying trailer.

“Hop on your Hover Bike and blaze through the vast Axion Plains as you rally your squad for an 8-player Colossus Raid against the fearsome Wall Crasher.”

Although Breakthrough fully launches on 7 August, players can dive into a demo later this month on 24 July so get a taste of the non-stop action promised.

To do so, you will have to pre-register on the official NEXON website and by doing so, not only will you gain access to Breakthrough earlier but you will also unlock some limited edition rewards.

Registration is open from 6 June to 8 July so you had better hurry if you wish to take part in the demo.

“Starting Thursday, July 24th, we will open a Demo that allows all Descendants to briefly experience some of the Season 3 content,” the official website reads.

In this Demo, you can preview the new Field "Axion," the Legion of Breach and Mutants, new Missions, Wall Crasher Battle preview, the Hover Bike, and Season 3 cutscenes.

We hope this Demo will provide an opportunity for you to experience the new content and atmosphere in advance.”

So if you are new to The First Descendant or are a veteran ready for some new content, make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to play before everybody else.
