PC gamers can now pick up a new FPS that combines Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty, and it seems to be making waves on the internet.
As the looming threat of Grand Theft Auto VI and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 hangs over our heads for the remainder of 2026, there are still a few games left to release which seem to be grabbing players’ attention away from the big hitters.
Trapstar Games has released Hood Warfare 2, a game that combines the gang war presentation of Grand Theft Auto with the smooth FPS gameplay of Call of Duty.
Set in Chicago, rival gangs are fighting for control of the city’s different turfs. You pick a side, customise your weapons, and fight other players across a variety of different game modes.

Hood Warfare 2 is built in Unreal Engine 5, and as such massively upgrades the graphics, animations, and design of the game from the original. There’s a brand new set of maps, taking players through various areas of the city like downtown, the suburbs, and various other commercial districts.
There are six game modes available to play, ranging from FPS classics like Chaos (traditionally known as DeathMatch), Turf War (a spin on King of the Hill), and Hit a Lick (essentially Capture the Flag).
Other improvements that Hood Warfare 2 makes over the original includes new weapon customisation features, as well as ways to level up and build your reputation to unlock new gear.

Don't expect Hood Warfare 2 to be a social commentary on gang wars and violence...
Altogether though, it seems to be more of a game that uses gang warfare as set dressing rather than actually engaging with the subject as a discussion, so I wouldn’t approach this game expecting it to be a commentary on violence or the stereotypes associated with it.
This much is proven by the fact a weird disclaimer has been added to the bottom of the store page which reads: “The issues of gang violence are a complex issue that Hood Warfare does not attempt to replicate or promote. Like all video games, this is a piece of media for entertainment.”
Still, players seem to be enjoying the game given its low price and approachable gameplay. Hood Warfare 2 currently has 78% positive reviews on Steam.
“Hilariously fun game. Keeps it simple and straight forward. It's basically Counter-Strike meets Boyz n da Hood,” reads one player review who left a positive rating.
“still less of a cash grab than the past 3 cod games,” reads another player review.
However, many other reviews have called the game out for its poor performance and abundance of cheaters. Some also acknowledge the racist imagery of the player designs, accusing the developer of using AI to capitalise on the success of games that inspired it.
