Grand Theft Auto players have somehow found a way to play all three of the classic trilogy games at the same time, all in one.

The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI is clearly getting to some people. From crackpot conspiracy theories about what we’ll find in the new-and-improved Vice City, to nitpicks at Rockstar Games’ trailer renders, fans are looking for any excuse to pass the time.

A somewhat healthy remedy is simply replaying the old Grand Theft Auto games, though unfortunately, there’s no reliable way to play the classics on modern platforms apart from Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. No one wants to play that version.

PC is a different story, though. Through techniques like emulation, all of the previous games are playable at the drop of a hat. But how do you pick which one to play? The answer is you don’t; you play all three at the same time.

New Grand Theft Auto mod by Dryxio is three games in one

Spotted by Dexerto, Dryxio’s mod showcase starts with CJ in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

After heading outside to Grove Street, a gigantic TV can be seen in the middle of the road, which starts playing Grand Theft Auto III.

Then, GTA III’s protagonist, Claude, drives down the road to another big screen, which cuts to Tommy Vercetti from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Spoken like Kirk Lazarus from Tropic Thunder; that’s a game being played in a game, within another game.

There weren’t just video files either. They are indeed the actual games running inside one another.

Now this begs the question: could you do a successful playthrough of all three games this way? Probably not, but we’d love to be proven wrong. If it is possible, you’d probably have to finish GTA: Vice City first, then GTA III and finally GTA: San Andreas.

Either way, it’s quite a technical achievement, and dare we say it’d be preferable to play the trilogy this way than through the ‘definitive’ editions that were released in 2021.

GTA 6 marketing is about to begin, meaning a third trailer is imminent

Back in the modern day, GTA VI is about to kick off its official marketing campaign. It’s laughable to think it even needs one, given how it’s going to be the biggest video game launch in years.

Take-Two Interactive said marketing would begin over the Summer, but all of the excitement around the World Cup will have prevented it from truly getting started.

After Spain claimed victory over Argentina, though, nothing is stopping Rockstar from dropping the third trailer for GTA VI, which will hopefully include some honest-to-God gameplay this time.

We’re also hoping for news on the game’s PC port and when to expect it, plus a sneak-peek at the next iteration of GTA: Online. Gamers have been abandoning the current iteration due to a lacklustre finale heist update.
