GTA VI fans were apparently once mocked for this Vice City tease 13 years ago, but it turns out, it may have been right after all.
Years before Rockstar Games officially revealed the first trailer for its next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series in December 2023, speculative fan theories were constantly making the social media rounds. As such, it was difficult at times to distinguish the likely from the purely outrageous.
Speculating on the latest GTA VI fan theory is always fun, and even though we know for sure that the game is finally being released in November this year, we’re sure that we have at least one or two fun fan theories before its highly anticipated arrival.
In 2013, what looked to be a very early tease for GTA VI was being shared across social media after gamers spotted a towel on a beach in GTA V that read “I Love Vice City”. It’s claimed that some fans were torn between this being a genuine tease or just a simple Easter egg, giving a nostalgic nod to the popular 2002 game.
Well, whatever you may or may not have thought about that apparent tease, it looks like those who speculated that it was tease-related GTA VI may have been correct after all.

“Remember, years ago, people used to say this was a hint that GTA VI was going to be based in Vice City, and everyone was like ‘sure buddy, take your meds, they’d never make another game there’”, posted Redditor nikarov496.

This was very likely a tease for Vice City being a main location in GTA VI, although Rockstar Games planting easter eggs in other games is nothing new.
“There are Vice City references in GTA IV. This proves that GTA V will be in Vice City,” said a sarcastic PirloDiLatte.
“It's a stupid connection, regardless, of course, Vice City is gonna be mentioned somewhere in GTA V. GTA games reference other cities/states all the time,” replied RewardFluid7316.
“In a lot of GTA games, there are little Vice City or Liberty City easter eggs. I think it has nothing to do with a hint. Rockstar just likes to mention its other cities,” added Icy-Instruction-1198.
It’s probably very safe to assume that when Grand Theft Auto VI graces us with its presence on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it will most likely have a ton of Easter eggs referring to series games of yesteryear, too.
