GTA 5 gets huge new Narco War expansion adding an entirely new criminal operation
GTA V players can now take part in a new criminal operation in Los Santos in this new PC mod expansion that features six new missions, titled ‘Narco War’.
Narco War, created by Beethoven718, is a new fan-made expansion for Rockstar Games' GTA V, which remains as popular as ever despite the highly anticipated GTA VI being just around the corner.
In fact, with no release date announced yet for a PC version of the next Grand Theft Auto game, GTA V looks set to have plenty of life left within it.
That's where Narco War comes in - with the expansion available to download now via NexusMods.

Narco War is described as a “free-roam compound takeover for Michael”. Its six missions take place along the west coast, stretching from Vespucci to Paleto. Your job is to deliver unlawful goods to dealers while trying to hold your turf, all while being chased by the Coast Guard and keeping to a strict schedule.
You might be pleased to know that there is only “one assault wave per compound,” so you shouldn't have to worry about being overwhelmed by endless invasions across your turf. It's also worth noting that you'll need a digital copy of GTA V Legacy rather than the ‘Enhanced’ edition.

What else does Narco War add to GTA 5?
- Its free-roam system is persistent, which means it’s not a scripted mission chain.
- Every compound is populated by its own gangs and features rival kingpins that you can trash-talk via in-game messages.
- You can build your own crew of up to seven members, who will follow you on land and water.
- Much of the combat will take place on water. When a compound is captured, packages are generated, which you must then collect and deliver using your boat.
- Your boat has a progression tier. The more you play, the more your boat improves for missions.
- There’s an end-game reward that permanently unlocks a Kurtz 31 at La Puerta. This is a large and powerful military boat that can deal a lot of damage.
Can you use GTA 5 mods on PS5 and Xbox?
Unfortunately, mods for GTA V aren't available on PlayStation or Xbox consoles. Unlike Bethesda's mod support for games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, GTA V mods are exclusive to PC. Sadly, this will most likely remain the case for GTA VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
As for when GTA VI will be released on PC, Rockstar Games hasn't announced that information yet. For reference, GTA V arrived on PC roughly 17 months after its original release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Red Dead Redemption 2, lessening that gap, arrived on PC just over a year after its PS4 and Xbox One release. Let's just hope GTA VI doesn't follow in the footsteps of the original Red Dead Redemption, which took well over 14 years to finally arrive on PC.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
