The Elder Scrolls VI is taking its sweet time to come out but worry not, as you’re better off playing this stunning 2026 release instead.
In a way, we can only admire Bethesda’s work etiquette when it comes to The Elder Scrolls VI.
We’re nearing an actual honest-to-God decade since the game’s initial reveal and we haven’t even seen a screenshot of in-game gameplay yet.
The studio must be cooking up literal perfection, which is why we’ll continue to patiently wait until it’s ready to show us something.

In the meantime, though, Elder Scrolls fans will still get their fix later this year and this recent update has us more excited than ever.
Elder Scrolls enthusiasts will have probably heard of Skyblivion before like The Elder Scrolls VI, we’ve spent a long time waiting for it.
Skyblivion is an ambitious merger of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
In a nutshell, you’re getting the entirety of Oblivion’s map but with Skyrim’s updated and far superior gameplay. That’s not to say Oblivion’s gameplay is bad, but it’s definitely dated.
When Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, it was celebrated by all but despite looking prettier, it likely still felt like a downgrade if you've played Skyrim for years.

Skyblivion is a different story, though, as it’s more akin to a remake of Oblivion than a simple remaster.
So what’s new with the conversion mod since we last saw it? The team of volunteers known as TESRenewal have been working tirelessly to create something truly remarkable and you can see the fruits of their labour below.
According to the recent update provided by the team, several in-game locations “have been fully QA'd and optimised with more and more of Skyblivion finalised every day — including Fathis Aren's Tower.”
The images speak for themselves as the game has never looked better. Combined with Skyrim’s gameplay, this project is shaping up to be the definitive Elder Scrolls game before The Elder Scrolls VI even comes out.
TESRenewal’s work goes beyond visuals, too, as it’s even reworking some of the bosses to make them more engaging for players to fight.
Mannimarco, the King of Worms, is a good example as the developers explained he’s been reworked to feature “unique mechanics and custom level designs, adding a new layer of challenge for players to overcome.”
At the time of writing, an exact release date hasn’t been provided but the team is said to still be on track for a 2026 release.
There’s plenty of runway left in 2026 to land the game, so delays don’t seem likely, but even if it does get pushed back to 2027, it’ll probably still come out before The Elder Scrolls VI…
Skyblivion is a love letter to all Elder Scrolls fans and is shaping up to be the greatest game in the series.
