This Deus Ex Unreal Engine 5 remaster looks phenomenal

The first Deus Ex game in Unreal Engine 5 is gorgeous

Unreal Engine 5 can do some remarkable things, and while its primary purpose is to be used in the development of brand-new games, it can also do wonders for the games of yesteryear.

Recently, one dedicated fan used it to remaster the PC and PlayStation 2 game Deus Ex, the results of which have now been shared online, blowing us all away in the process.

In case you’ve never played it, Deus Ex is a sci-fi RPG set in the distant future of 2052, where you play as JC Denton, an agent of the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition. Denton is augmented to have superhuman strength, speed and expertise with a number of firearms, with first-person shooting making up the majority of the gameplay.

It’s essentially Cyberpunk 2077 before Cyberpunk 2077 was a twinkle in CD Projekt Red’s eye, and it’s very, very good. It’s so good it received several sequels over the years, though the first game still holds a special place in the hearts of fans and has held up pretty well.

The remaster simply adds an extra cherry on top, as it upgrades the now-dated graphics with enhanced resolution and lighting using Unreal Engine 5.

Now there is some bad news. PC players eager to give the remaster a try might be disappointed to hear it won’t be free. To gain access you’ll need to donate to the modder's Patreon.

You’ll also need a copy of the game to apply to the mod but you can get a digital copy for a remarkably low price on Steam if you’re interested.

So if you want to play a version of the game with more bearable visuals this is the mod for you, if you’re willing to pay the price for it. That being said the original version is still well worth playing in its current state, especially if you liked Cyberpunk 2077 and fancy giving a more retro RPG a go.
