A Dark Souls fan has remade the starting area of the first game using Unreal Engine 5, and it’s screaming for an official FromSoftware remake.

The OG Dark Souls has already been remastered by FromSoftware, though depending on who you ask is sometimes perceived as the inferior version of the as while it looks fantastic in some areas, in others the original did it better.

Of course it’s all down to personal preference, and in the end it's the gameplay that makes you want to play a soulsborne.

That being said, is it too much to ask for both? One fan certainly didn’t think so as I’ve painstakingly recreated the opening area to the first Dark Souls game in Unreal Engine 5 and it looks sublime.

Named the Undead Asylum, the area acts as an impromptu tutorial for players as they get to grips with the controls and game mechanics, like parrying, healing, etc.

It’s also the part of the game that’ll either leave you intrigued and ready for more, or throwing your controller away when you miss the first hurdle. The Asylum Demon acts as the game’s first boss and if you don’t plan ahead or learn the secrets of the fight you may feel the game is too difficult for you.

With OotavidMann’s remake though, you could at least meet your timely demise while taking in the gorgeous scenery, as to say it’s an area filled with undead and misery Unreal Engine 5 makes it oddly beautiful, even tranquil.

From the crackling bonfire to the discarded weapons and tools of warriors past and present this is exactly what I envision when I think of the game, and it’s a crying shame Dark Souls never received the same remake treatment Demon Souls did.

Maybe after Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree drops FromSoftware plans to revisit the titles that started the soulsborne craze and give them a proper makeover and overhaul.
