An indie developer has remade The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, powered by Unreal Engine 5.

It’s fair to say that when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, it instantly became one of the greatest video games of all time, as reflected by its 99 Metacritic score.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time gave us a sense of adventure like never before in this beloved series. Sure, the NES and SNES titles are fantastic, but exploring the Kingdom of Hyrule in a fully 3D world on the N64 was next level.

Fan Remakes Zelda: Ocarina of Time using Unreal Engine 5

A talented fan, cryzenx, has remade The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and for what it is, it looks impressive. There’s little denying that Unreal Engine 5 gives this 28-year-old classic extra shine.

In a gameplay clip shared on X, we see Kakariko Village, the Wolfo’s in the Sacred Forest Meadow, the volcanic Death Mountain and more. While the visuals have arguably been improved, the fan-made remake retains all the nostalgic sound effects of the N64 original.

Fans React to This Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake

“How far did Cryzenx get with this project?” asked DreamozLantus. “It's amazing that one person pulled this off!”

“Bro is definitely getting headhunted for the remake team,” suggested tvylxr9.

“This looks so generic. Unreal Engine may be good at something, but this, no,” replied Capt_Char.

“I don’t know how to describe it. It doesn’t look bad, but it doesn’t look good either. It may be because of the lighting,” QBlanson attempted to explain.

“This doesn't even look good, it uses way too much bloom and feels not like a proper Zelda remake,” said Zeldameister.

Will Zelda: Ocarina of Time get an Official Remake?

At this time, there has been no indication by Nintendo that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will get an official remake.

However, if you want to play this beloved game today, you can do so not only on the N64 and GameCube, but also on the 3DS and on the Nintendo Switch via its Online + Expansion Pack tier.

Of course, if Nintendo does announce an official remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, we’ll be the first to let you know.
