Pokémon Red’s Chronicles is a brand-new adventure you can play now

Not one to miss

Pokémon fans are going to fall in love with this bold new take on the franchise, which is exactly what we’ve wanted for years.

The Pokémon games have a formula to them, you start your adventure in a new place before tackling eight gyms and the Elite 4 with your chosen starter ‘mon and whatever you catch along the way.

Things get sidetracked by some sort of antagonist and the game usually ends with a face-off against a legendary Pokémon before the credits roll. Pokémon Legends: Z-A has the opportunity to do something different though.

But before we get there, there’s another game on the way that looks just as good, Pokémon: Red’s Chronicles.

It’s a fan-made project you can play right now and it does the unthinkable, it actually features a proper story.

As the title probably gives away, you play as Red from the Gen I games, who comes back as an optional trainer battle in some of the following games.

In the game you’ll go on a quest as Red to find his father, with the usual Pokémon gameplay of catching and battling ‘mon along the way.

All of this is presented through a gorgeous pixelated artstyle like the older generation games, something I think has been sorely missing from the latest releases.

While I’m not dead against Pokémon in 3D (it was always going to happen as hardware improved) I’ve always preferred the 2D style, and hope to one day see a HD-2D game for the series.

You can find Pokémon: Red’s Chronicles online so if you’re interested in giving it a go now’s the time to do so, as we all know from Palworld how The Pokémon Company deals with games that impose on its style…

I do hope future Pokémon games adopt a more mature story like Pokémon: Red’s Chronicles is doing though, it’d be a nice change of pace from the usual formula.
