Pokémon players are roasting some of the new Mega Evolution designs in the newly released Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Ever since the Pokémon series made its debut in the mid-90s on the Nintendo Game Boy, fans have been bedazzled by the likes of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and more.
For the most part, Pokémon evolve into more powerful beings not only with their skill set but also in size. They can also grow new physical features, colour shades and in some cases, temperaments.
In 2013, with the release of Pokémon X and Y on the Nintendo 3DS, Mega Evolutions were introduced. In a nutshell, these Mega Evolutions are bigger and stronger than the standard evolutions.

This week, the long-awaited Pokémon Legends: Z-A releases on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes us back to Lumiose City of the Kalos region, which was first introduced in the aforementioned Pokémon X and Y. It also sees the return of Mega Evolutions.
In our review of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, GAMINGbible’s Sam said: “I think Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a fantastic Pokémon game. The new battle mechanics are a stellar addition to the formula, and it was great to see Mega Evolutions return in such bombastic fashion.
“It feels like the continuation Pokémon X and Y needed but never got, as it’s always felt like those games never truly got the love, respect and time they deserved.”

That all being said, while bringing back Mega Evolutions to the Pokémon series is welcome, not everyone is happy with the designs.
“The new Megas feel really weird,” said Redditor genkourga108. “Mega Hawlucha looks nice, as do the starters, but everything else looks off. Mega Starmie is oddly humanoid, and in my opinion, is bad. Mega Excadrill also looks odd.

“New Megas always look off or weird when you first see them, just because you haven't seen them before; older Megas were the same,” replied RJS_but_on_Reddit. “For most, it's an adjustment period; you'll get used to them. Unless it's Mega Starmie.”

“Starmie and Pyroar specifically both feel like they ran out of ideas or came up with the ideas after a long night of brainstorming and settled with ‘How about we just do long legs for this one, and this one just gets more of a mane. Is everyone cool with that? Good. Let’s get some sleep,” said DarthBagheera.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is out now in both physical and digital form.
