Nintendo Switch Users Surprised By Unexpected Mario Freebie

Wahooo

Super Mario fans have been blessed with an unexpected freebie to go with a new Nintendo Switch game.

It’s Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 launch day, with both games now available as either separate purchases or as a bundle on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

My physical copy arrived today and I’m excited to dive back into what’s widely considered the best 3D Mario games, though I’ve always preferred Super Mario Galaxy over its sequel…

While the re-releases have lightly touched up the visuals and updated controls for Nintendo Switch hardware, another change comes in the form of new story content and new music tracks to presumably go with them.

Apparently three new tracks can be found in the game, one for Super Mario Galaxy and two for Super Mario Galaxy 2. These include 'Good Night' (Galaxy), 'Twins' (Galaxy 2) and 'Special Someone' (Galaxy 2).

You’ll hear these new melodies in the game but you can also listen to them by themselves through Nintendo Music, as the soundtrack from both Galaxy games has been added to the app. It’s quite a blessing too as both soundtracks are incredible.

This re-release is exciting but it’s not without some controversy. Many have criticised Nintendo for re-releasing Super Mario Galaxy for the second time on Nintendo Switch, as the game could be acquired through the limited-run release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Many questioned at the time why Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn’t make it onto the compilation, and this is likely why, so it could be re-released as a package deal later on.

That said, we can’t judge too harshly as those who already owned the Nintendo Switch version of Super Mario Galaxy don’t need to buy the bundle, they can simply buy Super Mario Galaxy 2 separately instead.

Other critiques have been made about the price of the games, and some have argued that they’re actually lesser versions than what we’ve had before. Some side-by-side comparisons seem to place the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version of Super Mario Galaxy as the better port, as some of the visuals and textures look better and appear to be more detailed.

So some pretty mixed opinions, but they’re exactly that, opinions. If you’re not overly fussed about visuals and just want to play both games on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2, this is a fine way to do so.
