Nintendo has issued another batch of Super Mario-related freebies, but you’d better act fast to claim them.
2025 marked the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., and Nintendo has been working hard to celebrate the event with new announcements, game releases, and free content.
To round off the year, Nintendo has also added some new Super Mario-themed freebies to the Nintendo Switch Online bank of icons.
As spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user NSO Icon Alerts, the current selection of Super Mario icons has now changed, and you can now pick up a fresh batch.

These new icons can be redeemed and added to your Nintendo Switch profile, but they’ll only be available for a limited time. The current batch is available now, but will be gone by 22 December, so you’d better act fast.
The new icons include several characters from the Super Mario franchise such as Mario, Peach, and Bowser. You can also spot some of Mario’s other forms from Super Mario Bros. Wonder, like Wubba and Elephant Mario.

There are also a few additional icons based on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe added with this update, too. You can find icons featuring Mario, Peach, and Baby Luigi all riding in karts.
Alongside these icons, you’re also able to pick up frames and backgrounds that fit with the new designs on offer.
Backgrounds featuring various Mario patterns are able to be claimed as part of this promotion, along with backgrounds based on several Mario Kart tracks too.
How to Claim Nintendo Switch Online Icons on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2
To claim these icons, you need to head to the Nintendo Switch Online app on your Switch or Switch 2 console home screen.
From here, find the Missions & Rewards section of the app and you’ll be able to redeem these icons and add them to your account.
You’ll need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to grab these (though it doesn't matter whether you're on the standard subscription or the Expansion Pack), as well as sufficient Platinum Points for each one. Since they’re free to collect, you should have enough to grab the icons you want.
If you’d like to claim these items, make sure you do so by 22 December, otherwise they will be gone forever.
Once this date passes, they’ll be discontinued and Nintendo will replace them with a new set of icons, presumably something festive to bring in the holiday period.
