It is no secret that every Nintendo fan is proud to be a Nintendo fan and finding ways to show off your love for something is one of life’s greatest treats.

Luckily, Nintendo is helping fans out with showing the love by releasing some free downloads available for the next month.

In an era where customising your PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch profiles is seemingly a thing of the past (despite pleas from players), Nintendo is starting to bring it back by regularly cycling through free downloads dedicated to some of its most-loved franchises.

From Animal Crossing to Pokémon and not to mention Super Mario, Switch users are gaining the ability to deck out their profiles with some of their favourite games and characters.

That is the case once again this month as Nintendo has released five new icons based on Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.

The game, first launched in 1992 for the Game Boy, is a classic so it is no wonder that this epic deal was discovered by NSO Icon Alerts on Twitter.

Unlike previous free icon downloads, this time you will have to play the game in order to redeem them instead of just spending the virtual Platinum currency.

So that just means you will need to boot up Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins via NSO whilst the event is active in order to receive five icons.

The event is active until 6 January so you have quite some time to grab them.

With 6 Golden Coins following the story of Mario as he races to save his personal island, Mario Land, from the clutches of the greedy Wario, you can grab icons of them both along with some extra characters.

Once you have booted up the game, your rewarded icons can be found in the Missions & Rewards tab on the Nintendo Switch Online page.
