The Nintendo Switch has received its final major ahead before the Switch 2 launches next week.
Those who have been fortunate to get a pre-order for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be excited to get their hands on the new system when it arrives on 5 June 2025.
However, there’s still plenty of life in the original Nintendo Switch that initially launched in 2017, especially as many of the Switch 2 titles will be cross-gen, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and more.

So hopefully, those who are unable to get the new console, wont miss out on too much, at least for the immediate future. That being said, the Switch 2 does have exclusive titles such as Mario Kart World.
As brought to our attention by Twitter user OatmealDome, firmware update 20.1.0 for the original Nintendo Switch is now live and makes subtle changes to the home screen.
The ‘Basic White’ and ‘Basic Black’ themes have been renamed to ‘Basic Light’ and ‘Basic Dark’, while the Nintendo Switch Online app has been updated to support the ‘Basic Dark’ theme.
Sadly, judging by the comments in the thread, this wasn't quite the theme update that many Nintendo Switch gamers were hoping for.

“If only they can actually have real theme support,” said LinkofHyrule89.
“Nintendo changing this right before the Switch 2 gives me some hope for at least some basic colours like blue or red. But knowing Nintendo, it isn’t guaranteed,” replied Yonko1237.
That being said, RandoAntho had some unexpected positive news as a result of the subtle update for the Nintendo Switch.
“It’s made the app run way smoother, OMG. Now it doesn't take 10 seconds just to redeem one icon anymore,” he revealed.

Hopefully, one day, much like Xbox and PlayStation, we’ll get themes inspired by our favourite Nintendo franchises. If that day should ever come, we’ll be sure to let you know ASAP.
