Nintendo has confirmed that a much-requested feature will be making its way to the Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 releases next week, and fans will finally be able to play the first new Nintendo system in eight years.
It’s exciting news all-around, even more so because we also get to play a new Mario Kart on the same day.

With the Switch 2 having much more powerful hardware than its predecessor, it’s evident that new features can be introduced that weren’t possible on the older console.
Now, Nintendo has confirmed some new features coming to the Nintendo 64 titles that are available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack tier.
The first confirmed feature is Rewind, which is useful for if you make a mistake, or wish to go back to a previous moment in gameplay.
It’s a common feature to find in emulators for older systems, allowing you to take the game back to a previous state without any interruption.

Think of it as like using a constant stream of save states, except they’re saved in real-time and can be recalled at any moment.
If it behaves similar to the rewind feature in older Nintendo Classics titles, you’ll be able to rewind by at least a couple of minutes. That should be enough time to correct any major mistakes you made.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has also added a CRT filter for the screen. While it won’t be as good as playing on an actual CRT TV like we did when we were kids, the filter should give you an extra dose of nostalgia.
Finally, Nintendo has also confirmed that customisable controls are coming to Nintendo 64 titles, allowing you to tweak the controls for an easier time.

Also, it’ll be available for the original Switch, and not just Switch 2 owners, which is good news for those who aren't planning to upgrade just yet.
These new features will launch for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack members when the Switch 2 launches on 5 June, 2025.
