Nintendo Switch 2's first major risk of breakage uncovered

Someone has already identified a major flaw in the Nintendo Switch 2 that should cause some concern.

Today is the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 launch day, with excited gamers eager to jump into Mario Kart World or even play enhanced games such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which now look nicer but also have improved framerates.

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts improved visuals and performance (handheld and docked), as well as a larger screen over its predecessors. It also has subtle improvements such as a built-in mic and an additional USB-C port, and more.

The Joy-Con 2 has larger analogue sticks, better rotation and PC mouse-like features. However, whether the infamous stick drift will be eradicated or at least greatly reduced remains to be seen.

One other feature that has been implemented on the Joy-Cons 2 is the magnetic connection; it is designed to make the connection for the controllers to the Nintendo Switch 2 more seamless, rather than the slide-and-click connection of the previous console.

However, as picked up by TweakTown, the YouTube channel ProModding has broken down the Nintendo Switch 2 to get a closer look at what’s under the hood.

ProModding has found a potential flaw with how the Joy-Con 2 connects to the Nintendo Switch 2, and despite being a tighter, seemingly more secure fit, they can still be wobbled. Hopefully, that won't be a major concern for heavy-handed folk.

The kickstand has also been improved, with it not only being wider but can support the Nintendo Switch 2 at more angles. The kickstand on the previous OLED model was made longer than the original 2017 console, but it’s still not that versatile, it has to be said.

Speaking of which, ProModding also reports that despite its improvements over previous models, the kickstand is “too flimsy” and “there’s a high risk of breakage.”

Just how well the new kickstand will last over time remains to be seen. That being said, whenever you buy something as expensive as the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s always a good idea to take care of it.
