Nintendo Switch 2 launch plans stranger than we expected

Don't expect all of the console's launch titles to drop at once

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is within sniffing distance.

Nintendo is finally set to unveil all on 2 April, or at least that’s what we’re all hoping.

The truth is that there’s no indication whether the Direct will address hardware and software or just the former.

I don’t know about you but I’m itching to find out about the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch line-up as much as I am the console’s specs and features.

Only time will tell what’s in store, but thankfully we don’t have too long to wait.

In the meantime, a new report from Insider Gaming has shed light on a supposed “three phase” launch expected to be carried out by Nintendo.

You can take a look at the Nintendo Switch 2’s initial reveal below.

According to Insider Gaming, the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up will focus on first-party games - with the consensus being that the console will launch in June.

Sources told the site that there’ll then be a second launch phase which will arrive in October and November.

This will see a range of third-party titles released on the console as Switch 2 dev kits are supposedly being shipped out in June.

Finally, a third phase will drop in December.

This phase is said simply to focus on games for the holiday period, so I’m imagining we’ll see a selection of both first and third party titles.

As odd as this rollout may look on paper, I actually think it’s pretty clever.

You want a launch line-up that gives people a reason to buy the console, but you also don’t want to dangle too many tempting games to the point where players feel like they can only afford to select one or two.

By staggering the rollout of its Switch 2 software line-up, I’m going to hazard a guess that far more of us will feel happy with splashing the cash over an extended period of time more so than we might if everything dropped at once.

Of course, it’s worth bearing in mind that this should all be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

With that 2 April Direct almost here though, answers will soon be ours.
