Nintendo has dropped a surprise free update for one of the best Super Mario games of all time, but everyone should remain calm.
Quite easily, the Super Mario character is one of the most instantly recognisable mascots in the video game industry, perhaps even the entertainment industry as a whole. Whether it’s recognising his charming face and his voice saying, “WAHOO!”.
However, despite Mario making his first appearance in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong and starring in his very own games with Mario Bros. (1983) and Super Mario Bros. (1985) on the NES, becoming a household name for Nintendo, his actor, Charles Martinet, had never heard of him.
Sitting down with me for a chat, he said: “It's been an amazing journey for me. Doing the voice of Mario, I started off crashing an audition where I had never heard of the character or even Nintendo. Yet, I had so much fun at the audition,”. You can read our full interview with the legend himself here.

In October 2025, Nintendo released a remastered bundle of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on both Switch consoles.
Both of these games were originally released on the Wii and are considered to be amongst the best titles in the series.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 Gets a Nintendo Switch Update
As brought to our attention by Reddit user Skullghost, update version Ver. 1.3.1 has now been deployed. However, it will be wise to stay calm; it’s really nothing to get excited about.

The Patch Notes Read:
General
- Software information has been updated. No in-game content has been changed.
- Note: The software must be updated to Ver. 1.2.0 or later to play on Nintendo Switch 2.
That’s it. That’s the update. The patch notes are ridiculously vague, but I would assume that it makes some stability improvements at best.
But listen - you'll need to make sure the update is installed if you want to fire up this Mario classic. The update will be ready to download the next time you fire up the game, you can do this by clicking the minus button on your joycon while hovering over the game artwork on the main screen.
It'll tide you over until we get the next 3D Mario game in the franchise! When Nintendo announces the first native Super Mario game on the Nintendo Switch 2, we'll be sure to let you know. WAHOO!
