If you want to claim some Nintendo Switch freebies, then you’re in luck but you don’t have long to claim them.

While gamers wait for Nintendo to allow us to customise our home screen with themes inspired by our favourite franchises such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing, we can at least show our love by updating our profile icons on the Switch.

Check out the Super Mario Bros. Wonder trailer below!

Sure, the icons might not be as exciting as dynamic themes or DLC but at this point, especially on Nintendo Switch, we’ve got to make the most of what we have, right? There are already icons that we can use in our profile settings but if you want something a bit more exclusive, then we’ve got you covered.

As brought to our attention by the Twitter account NSO Icons Alerts, you can claim additional free icons but only for a limited time. These icons can be purchased with Platinium Coins, one of Nintendo’s two free currencies.

These special icons are only available for a limited time until the next rotation arrives. Hopefully, the next batch of free icons will be inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom which releases this week on 26 September.

At the time of writing, icons inspired by Super Mario games are available until 30 September and include the likely heroes, namely Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and more.

You can access the free icons via the Nintendo Switch home screen by going to ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ and then selecting the ‘Missions & Rewards’ section. Depending on which icons you choose, they will cost five or ten Platinum coins.

The most recent game to be released in the stereotypical Italian plumber franchise is Super Mario Bros. Wonder available now with Super Mario Party Jamboree arriving on 17 October.
