Nintendo fans praise Switch 2 launch update

By the sounds of things, getting ahold of a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch is going to be pretty easy

Nintendo's president has revealed that the company has specific plans in place to combat scalpers once the Nintendo Switch 2 launches, which has relieved fans who are hopeful to get their hands on one the day it drops.

Thank you in advance to Video Game Chronicle's Andy Robinson for the source (per Nikkei).

Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa was recently asked by Japanese reporters if the company had any plans in place to counter scalpers when the Nintendo Switch 2 finally goes on sale, and it sounds like Nintendo is taking the issue very, very seriously.

“We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like),” Furukawa told reporters.

“We are making preparations.”

Take a look at the console's reveal below.

Absolutely no idea what “preparations” entail, but the way it's worded almost sounds like Nintendo has some hitmen on the payroll.

Over in a thread on the r/NintendoSwitch subreddit, fans seemed particularly happy to hear that Nintendo has a strategy to combat scalpers.

“That's cool. Hopefully, any person who wants one can only have one,” commented user Lextalon696.

“Ngl, this sounds like an actual threat… 'We're prepared to deal with scalpers and resellers', as you see the ninjas being prepared to 'deal' with them,” replied user kurosaki004.

Last year, Furukawa spoke of similar anti-scalping plans, before the Nintendo Switch 2 had even been announced, except he actually revealed some specific details about how they intend to counter the demand.

Their plan? Simple; Nintendo is going to produce so many Nintendo Switch 2s, that buying them and attempting to resell them at launch will be a pointless endeavour.

Whether or not they’ll actually be able to produce enough consoles for that plan to work is another matter altogether, but Furukawa seemed positive about their chances back in 2024.

We’ll have to wait and see exactly how their plan pans out, once pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 finally go live.
